چکیده

Knowledge of airway tree morphology has important clinical applications in diagnosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. We present an automatic tree extraction method based on multiple hypothesis tracking and template matching for this purpose and evaluate its performance on chest CT images. The method is adapted from a semi-automatic method devised for vessel segmentation. Idealized tubular templates are constructed that match airway probability obtained from a trained classifier and ranked based on their relative significance. Several such regularly spaced templates form the local hypotheses used in constructing a multiple hypothesis tree, which is then traversed to reach decisions. The proposed modifications remove the need for local thresholding of hypotheses as decisions are made entirely based on statistical comparisons involving the hypothesis tree. The results show improvements in performance when compared to the original method and region growing on intensity images. We also compare the method with region growing on the probability images, where the presented method does not show substantial improvement, but we expect it to be less sensitive to local anomalies in the data.

A Generalized Tree Matching Algorithm Considering Nested Lists for Web Data Extraction

This paper studies structured data extraction from Web pages. One of the effective methods is tree matching, which can detect template patterns from web pages used for extraction. However, one major limitation of existing tree matching algorithms is their inability to deal with embedded lists with repeated patterns. In the Web context, lists are everywhere, e.g., lists of products, jobs and pub...

Robust Person-Independent Visual Sign Language Recognition

Sign language recognition constitutes a challenging field of research in computer vision. Common problems like overlap, ambiguities, and minimal pairs occur frequently and require robust algorithms for feature extraction and processing. We present a system that performs person-dependent recognition of 232 isolated signs with an accuracy of 99.3% in a controlled environment. Person-independent r...

Evaluation of Similarity Measures for Template Matching

Image matching is a critical process in various photogrammetry, computer vision and remote sensing applications such as image registration, 3D model reconstruction, change detection, image fusion, pattern recognition, autonomous navigation, and digital elevation model (DEM) generation and orientation. The primary goal of the image matching process is to establish the correspondence between two ...

Extraction and Tracking of Orientation Coded Features Being Robust against Illumination Changes

We present a feature extraction and tracking method which is based on pure rich texture analysis and has robustness under irregular conditions, such as illumination change, deformation of objects and so on. The method is composed mainly of two algorithms: Entropy Filtering and Orientation Code Matching (OCM). Entropy filter points up areas of images being messy distribution of orientation codes...

Segmentation and Tracking Using Region Adjacency Graphs, Picture Trees and Prior Information

Tracking of video objects in pixel space using block based methods or template matching suffers from boundary alignment problems, assumes knowledge of object location, and is severely effected by rotation and shear. This paper suggests a region domain based object tracking algorithm. Using region adjacency graphs it is proposed to perform the search in region space, using relational information...
